Tip of the day: Try to avoid shopping when you see deals, shop with a purpose so you don't over spend!

When it comes to beauty/grooming, we can easily spend hundreds of dollars a month keeping up our looks! So how do you look the part and save hundreds in beauty/grooming? Lets start by breaking everything down into two categories, the needs and the wants. Everyone's sections will be different based on your career and your personal abilities. For an example,

Needs

  • Hair cut/style

  • Skin treatment

Wants

  • Manicure

  • Pedicure

The above lists are short examples of what may or may not be on your chart. A $100 hair cut&style may be on your list of monthly needs, but what if you had a professional hair cut&style every two weeks instead of every week? Then you manage on your own for the weeks you skip the hair salon? This saves you $200 a month on hair. You can even buy a great pair of flat irons or hair clippers. This allows you to keep up your look at least until you make it to the salon! This will be a one time buy so you will continue saving about $200 a month after the purchase. What could you do with an extra $200!? Our next necessity is $40 skin treatments or facials. Your skin is bad so you cant just skip your facials every week. If your job is a model and your constantly wearing make up and behind the camera, this may be something you just cannot compromise on. If you work from home and rarely take in-person meetings, maybe you can get one facial per month and save $120 for saving or other needs. Wow! Your at $320 saved so far!

As for the Wants section, I would suggest buying your own polish and mani/pedi set and doing it yourself! If your mani and pedi are normally $60 for both, you just saved $240 per month. As you create your list and study your budget and needs, you will learn what you have the ability to do yourself versus what you just cannot do without! There are extreme savors whom only want to invest in more money and that should be you! I suggest finding ways to be able to give up everything on both lists and learning to do more for your self in order to spend your dollars on more things that count!

Do you have a savings account for emergency needs? Have you started saving for retirement? Is your debt paid off yet? Is your credit score 620 or higher? If you answered no to any of these, that is exactly where you should be putting your dollars. Financial independence is a lifestyle, so when are you going to start living it? How about now?
